Sam Childers

Machine Gun Preacher, Sam Childers, grew up in rural Pennsylvania. At an early age, Sam had a knack for getting into trouble. By his early teens, he was getting into more and more undesirable situations. He was constantly in fist fights, selling hard drugs and sleeping with married women. His life was getting deeper into a life of crime and violence. 

 

One day he became concerned about the path he was taking in life, fearful that he would be killed because of the activities that he was involved. He decided to change he life and found a job in construction. He sought out a clean life and re-established his relationship with God.

In 1998, Sam joined a mission group taking a trip to Southern Sudan. The team helped to repair  huts that were damaged in conflict. During this assignment Sam stumbled across the body of a child torn apart by a landmine. He fell to his knees and made a pledge to God to do whatever it took to help the people of Southern Sudan. 

​

Today, Machine Gun Preacher is dedicated to saving children around the world. His main focus is his mission work in East Africa, with Angels of East Africa (AOEA). With the help of donations, orphanages are in Ethiopia, South Sudan and Uganda, feeding over 13,000 meals a day.
